Verify a Capture

Independently confirm that a capture has not been tampered with.

Step 1: Look up the capture

How Verification Works

Every Snapoena capture has a SHA-256 hash computed at the moment of capture and stored in our database. This hash is a unique fingerprint of the image file - any modification, even a single pixel change, produces a completely different hash.

To verify a capture, upload the PNG file you received. This page computes the SHA-256 hash of your file entirely in your browser (the file is never uploaded to our servers) and compares it against the hash we recorded at capture time.

For captures with RFC 3161 timestamps, you can also download the timestamp response (.tsr) file and verify it independently using OpenSSL or any RFC 3161-compliant tool. The timestamp was issued by a trusted third-party Time Stamping Authority, proving the capture existed at that exact moment.
